About me

I’m Jess, and I’m on a mission to bring clarity to the world of children’s health. I started my career as a research scientist, but my real education began when I became a mom. I realized that the science I loved was often locked away in academic papers and that parents were left to sort through overwhelming and conflicting information.

That’s when I decided to shift my focus from the lab to building a bridge between research and everyday parenting. I now use my background to translate complex scientific topics into simple, clear advice you can trust. No jargon. No confusion. Just facts.

I’m here to bridge the gap between scientific research and your daily life, making it easier for you to feel confident in every decision you make for your family.

My Professional Journey

My academic and professional path has always centered on the intersection of science, health, and the environment. I earned my B.S. in Biology, where my research focused on contaminants in waterways and their impact on ecosystems. Building on that foundation, I completed a Master’s degree in Water Science, deepening my work on water contamination and its broader public health implications.

I then pursued doctoral research in Toxicology at the UC Irvine School of Medicine, concentrating on children’s health and the ways environmental exposures shape lifelong outcomes. That work inspired me to move beyond the lab and into the field of science communication, where I now focus on translating complex research into clear, practical guidance for families. I am continuing this journey through the Johns Hopkins University Science Writing Program, honing my ability to bridge the gap between cutting-edge science and everyday decision-making.

A little more about me

When I’m not writing or podcasting, I’m adventuring with my kids, answering their “why” questions, and testing kid-friendly ways to build healthy, resilient habits at home.
